Training Programme for providing facilities for the Prototype manufacturing of Solar Panels

- The Government policy is to get 20% of the entire electricity generation of the country out of non traditional renewable energy sources, by the year 2020. Accordingly, the Cabinet has granted approval on 06-04-2016 for the implementation of an educational training project on manufacturing Prototype Solar Panels, with a view to assisting in the industries pertaining to Solar Power which is past developing and its initial activities have already been commenced. Through this programme training of youth and the project and other relevant activities will be carried out by the direct intervention of 04 Professors of the 04 Universities of Kelaniya, Jaffna, Ruhuna and Peradeniya and another Professor from the National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS). As such, the proposal made by Hon. Susil Premajayantha, the Minister of Science, Technology and Research, to get an additional allocation of Rs.80 Million for providing the necessary equipment, chemicals and consumables for the successful implementation of the project, was approved by the Cabinet.
