Amendment to the Code of Criminal Procedure (Special Provisions) Act, No. 2 of 2013 - (Rights of Detainees - Access to Legal Counsel)

- The Cabinet at its meeting held on 2017- 01-10 has granted approval, to instruct the Legal Draftsman to draft amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure (Special Provisions) Act, No. 2 of 2013, to enhance further the rights of a suspect in police custody. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, the Minister of Justice, to publish the Code of Criminal Procedure (Special Provisions) draft Bill prepared by the Legal Draftsman and given clearance by the Attorney General, in the Government Gazette and present same in Parliament, was approved by the Cabinet.
