Procuring specially trained dogs to be deployed at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA)
- The adoption of security measures, to ensure the safety of the air passengers, the staff, the operational staff, the general public including the Civil Aviation industry is a mandate by every State. The use of trained dogs and the deployment of their handlers as a security measure is very important to detect explosives, weapons, narcotics, money, and potential harmful substances. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva, the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, to purchase 20 sniffer puppies, train and deploy them at the BIA with a view to enhancing its security measures pertaining to operational activities, was approved by the Cabinet.
