Extension of the grace period given for the Registration of Motor Cycles illegally imported to Sri Lanka and circulating in the Market
- Approval was granted by the Cabinet to register up to 2017‑01‑31, the motor cycles up to 450cc Engine capacity, that have been illegally imported to the country, subject to charging a surcharge based on the Cubic capacity of such motor cycles, without paying the taxes due to the Government. During this period 1558 motor cycles have been registered after paying the surcharge and a further number of 2500 motor cycles have been submitted to be directed for supervision. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva, the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, to extend the grace period given for the registration of motor cycles from 2017‑01‑31 to 2017‑03‑31 by a further 02 months to enable the proper completion of the matters pertaining to registration of these motor cycles, was approved by the Cabinet.
