Waiving off of Special Commodity Levy on Rice

- The proposal made by Hon. Ravi Karunanayake, the Minister of Finance, to present the Gazette Extraordinary No.2003/43 of 2017-01-27 issued under the Special Commodity Levy Act, No.48 of 2017, to reduce the Special Commodity Levy of Rs.15/- Kg on rice imposed so far up to Rs.5/- effective from 2017-01-28, in Parliament for approval, with a view to controlling the price hike in rice in the market and ensuring an adequate supply of rice to the local market, was approved by the Cabinet.
