Accelerating the Higher Education Expansion and Development (AHEAD) Project

- The Sri Lankan higher education sector has to be developed to address the economy based modern and global knowledge to meet the international standards. When minimizing the under employment prevalent in the graduates, priority has to be accorded to enhance the quality of the educational programmes and to enhance the employability skills of the students to improve the teaching and teaching methods and evaluation methods. The attention has also to be focused on the administration of the higher education field and the governance and management, investment and financing and also the non-governmental higher educational sector. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Lakshman Kiriella, the Minister of Higher Education and Highways, for the implementation of an expeditious project for the development of the expansion of the higher educational sector under the World Bank assistance project, for a period of 6 years, with a view to solving the problems existing in these fields, was approved by the Cabinet.
