Expediting the Programme for providing houses for families of the Low Income Group and the Middle Income Group

- It is anticipated to construct 620,000 houses by the year 2019 under the Home Ownership Programme for families of the Low Income Group and the Middle Income Group. Ensuring that the programme will be completed within the stipulated period of time, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister, in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to establish a Special Purpose Vehicle (Public Limited Company) under the General Treasury and a 'Land Bank' for all lands allocated to the said unit with a view to providing facilities required by the unit for the expeditious implementation of matters, treating it as a national priority, was approved by the Cabinet.
