Amendments to the Prevention of Crimes Ordinance
- At present, the finger prints of a certain accused could be obtained only in the case of crimes committed which are included in the Schedule to the Prevention of Crimes Ordinance. Therefore, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, the Minister of Justice, to make amendments to the Schedule to enable to include inter alia the finger prints of those also accused of certain new crimes which have been included in our legislation recently and also to make amendments to the prevention of Crimes Ordinance including provision for a Court of Law to direct a person to be subject to the supervision of the police when a suspended sentence is imposed on a convict of such a crime and in respect of whom a previous conviction has been proved, until such time the expiry of the operational period of such sentence and to publish the Draft Bill in the Government Gazette and subsequently to present the same in Parliament for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
