Construction of Luxury Tourist Camp Sites adjoining the Yala National Park
- In the year 2012, an extent of 07 Acres from the land belonging to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) situated in the Palatupana area adjoining the Yala National Park had been allotted to M/s Wild Coast Lodge (Pvt.) Ltd., to construct environmental friendly luxury tourist camp sites, with a view to attracting the tourists of the higher income group. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. John Amarathunga, the Minister of Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs, to give an additional 155 perches of land on lease basis for a period of 50 years, to the above company, in order to carry on the project successfully as planned earlier, to obtain the approval of the Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management, the recommendation of the Department of Wildlife Conservation and also to direct the company to carry out its activities following the recommendations of the other government institutions as well, when the relevant constructions are underway, was approved by the Cabinet.
