Implementation of an Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management System for the Kandy District

- Around 250 Metric Tons of waste is collected within the Municipal Council authority area of the Kandy District and also in other Local authority areas daily and as such a need has arisen for the disposal of such solid waste adopting an environmentally sound integrated mechanism. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to implement a Waste Management Programme for the Kandy District through a joint venture Company formed between the Municipal Council Kandy and a Private Investor selected through open proposal procedure, was approved by the Cabinet.
