Policy and Legal Framework relating to the Counter Terrorism Act

- The proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister, to refer the Amended Policy and Legal Framework relating to the Counter Terrorism Act to the Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight Committee on Legal Affairs, including the provisions to be incorporated into a new law to make provision for the protection of Sri Lanka's National Security and the Security of it's people from acts of terrorism and related attacks, the protection of the unity, territorial integrity and the sovereignty of Sri Lanka from acts of terrorism and related attacks, the protection of other countries and areas from the scourge of terrorism, the prevention of the use of Sri Lankan territory and its people for the preparation of terrorism in overseas, the prevention and detection of acts of terrorism and related offences, the identification of acts related to terrorism and the related offences, the identification of person who have committed acts of terrorism which would affect the national security and the security of the people of Sri Lanka, arrests, detention, investigations, prosecution and punishment and to commence drafting of Legislation in accordance with the said Framework, was approved by the Cabinet.
