Creating Awareness on Environment Education of the Teachers in accordance with the New Syllabus introduced

- The World Leaders and the Environment Organizations have entered into a number of conventions with regard to facing the challenge of climatic changes, successfully adaptation to such conditions and to minimize the damages caused, environment conservation etc. The environment sensitive components have been introduced to the science syllabus when the new syllabus for Grade 6 to Grade 11 were prepared to provide a formal education on such matters to school children with a view to making them aware about the future challenges on climatic and environment changes. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to implement a project to create awareness for the government teachers in environment education in order to effect an attitudinal change in the school children by providing them with a proper understanding about the environment sector, was approved by the Cabinet.
