Implementation of the Guidelines for the Construction and Maintenance of State Buildings as widely Environment friendly Green Buildings
- In order to achieve sustainable development goals in Sri Lanka it is mandatory to obtain the contribution of the green and environment friendly construction sector. In this respect, the Cabinet of Ministers have already granted approval for the Guidelines to be followed pertaining to designing, construction and maintenance of state buildings as widely environment friendly green buildings. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to obtain the approval to measure the qualitative status in implementing these Guidelines and the rating systems of the institutional structure in respect of the sectors namely energy efficiency, sustainable landscaping and management, infrastructure used for construction and resource management, qualitative aspects of the environment in-side the buildings, water efficiency, green innovation and their socio-cultural adaptability, in the construction of new state buildings, was approved by the Cabinet.
