Rehabilitation of the Elphinstone Theatre

- The Elphinstone Theatre Hall constructed in 1925 and acquired by the Government in 1988 is presently governed by the Tower Hall Theatre Foundation. The modernization activities of this Theatre with a 600 seating capacity are being presently carried out and it has been planned to reopen it for the public in the 1st quarter of the year 2017. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the Minister of Education, to generate the additional funds required for the completion of the remaining activities, was approved by the Cabinet.
