Recommendations of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on the proposed Registration of Electors (Special Provisions Bill)
- The implementation of the Registration of Electors (Special Provisions) Act, No.27 of 2013 which made provisions for safeguarding the right to vote of the displaced persons and the members of their families who resided in the temporary shelters and lodgings situated in the other areas of the Island having left their villages and properties in the Northern Province due to the conflict situation which prevailed, ended with effect from the 19th of June, 2015. In accordance with the recommendations of the Cabinet Sub-Committee appointed to examine this matter, it is further necessary to achieve the objectivities of the Act. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, the Minister of Justice, as the Chairman of the Sub-Committee, to publish in the Gazette the Registration of Electors (Special Provisions) Bill drafted with a view to providing an extension of the period of the validity of the provisions in the Act for a further period of 04 years and subsequently, present it in Parliament for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
