Upgrading of the Sri Lanka Institute of Textile & Apparel as a Degree awarding Institution

- Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel is engaged in the function of conducting training in the industry of Sri Lanka Textile and Apparel, quality testing and providing consultancy services. At present around 4,500 students follow the short term and long term courses offered by the Institute and currently the institute conducts in a wide range of demand driven courses including Certificate and Diploma Level. With a view to providing the capability of the students of the institute to face the competition, prevalent in the job market, it is proposed to upgrade this institute as a Degree awarding institution in the Textile and Apparel field affiliated with the Lovely Professional University of Punjab in India. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Rishad Bathiudeen, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding between the Sri Lanka Textile and Apparel Institute and the Lovely Professional University of Punjab in India, was approved by the Cabinet.
