Development of Infrastructure facilities of the Universities

- In order to retain the services of the academic and non-academic staff of the Universities outside Colombo, it is imperative that they are provided with accommodation facilities within the University premises itself. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Lakshman Kiriella, the Minister of Higher Education and Highways, to implement the projects for the construction of quarters for the staff of the Rajarata, Ruhuna, Wayamba, Sabaragamuwa, Eastern and Jaffna Universities, to construct a 4 storeyed building for the development of the Jaffna Regional Centre of the Open University and also to renovate the old buildings at the Peradeniya University premises and put them in order, was approved by the Cabinet.
