Resettlement of the displaced families due to the implementation of the Moragahakanda - Kaluganga Development Project in the Medirigiriya Divisional Secretary's Division
- A section of the displaced families owing to the Moragahakanda - Kaluganga Development Project is re-settled in the Kaluganga Catchment area and 9,000 Ha of productive lands in the Medirigiriya area belonging to the Mahaweli D-Zone have been identified to re-settle the remaining families. Under this programme the development activities in 4 Grama Niladari Divisions of the Medirigiriya Divisional Secretary's Division is already underway and is scheduled to carry out the human settlement development activities, in order to completely cover the Divisional Secretary's Division. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to expand the irrigational and human settlement development activities in the 9 Grama Niladari Divisions of the Medirigiriya Divisional Secretary's Division which is presently under-developed and also to conduct feasibility studies to expand the development activities of the remaining 32 Grama Niladari Divisions, was approved by the Cabinet.
