Improvement of the Police Information and Communication System (PICS)

- Cabinet approval had been granted in the year 2013, for the implementation of the Police Information and Communication System (PICS). However, due to the technological advancement of the new inventions in the field, it is observed that the overall purview of the whole system needs to be revised. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Sagala Ratnayaka, the Minister of Law & Order and Southern Development, to appoint a Steering Committee in consultation with the Ministry of Finance for a further revision of the entire compass of the project, to set apart a permanent range of frequency for the Sri Lanka Police Department, to apply 'digital' communication equipment instead of 'analogue' equipment, when the above project is established with the approval of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC), was approved by the Cabinet.
