Promotion of aquaculture on a commercial scale

- The expectation of the Government is to derive a target income of US$ 425 Million, the raring of aquaculture of fish varieties on a commercial basis utilising high technology and exporting same by the year 2020. As such, the Sri Lanka Aquaculture Development Authority is making an effort to attract investors engaged in aquaculture on a commercial basis utilising the latest technologies. Therefore, the proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, to identify suitable lands for the purpose and suitable waterways in the sea and the fresh water reservoirs and to lease same to suitable investors, as recommended by the Cabinet Sub-Committee appointed for making a study on this matter, was approved by the Cabinet.
