Sand nourishment project in the Marawila Beach (Phase II)

- The Phase II of the sand nourishment project implemented for pumping sand to minimize the coastal erosion of the Marawila beach has already commenced. As such, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to pump an additional 400,000 Cu.m of sand for the nourishment of an extra area for the long term stability of the Marawila-Thalawila beach line, making use of the balance provision available under this project for 2016, was approved by the Cabinet.
