Initiating Public Consultation Process on Media Standards and Entitlements

- It has been proposed to establish an Independent Commission to regulate the news content of the print media, broadcast media (Television and Radio) and locally registered Websites, in accordance with internationally recognized professional standards and practices, with the objective of promoting high professional and ethical standards in news media, while ensuring a free, independent and diverse media. Hence, the proposal made by Hon. Gayantha Karunathilaka, the Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media to conduct a comprehensive public consultation process for the implementation of the above proposal, was approved by the Cabinet.
