The National Policy on Construction

- The construction industry which is a major contributor to the national economy also a major driver of employment creation. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Sajith Premadasa, the Minister of Housing and Construction, to adopt the national policy for construction and its implementation mechanism, prepared by the National Advisory Council, on construction, under the provision of the Construction Industry Development Act, No.33 of 2014, with the objective of providing strategic leadership for all stakeholders in the construction industry, stimulating sustainable growth, reforms and improvement, promoting energy efficient and environment friendly building materials and systems, appropriate research, dissemination of information on research activities, formulating standards and codes of conduct and practices and promoting of export of construction services, was approved by the Cabinet.
