Drafting a new Act to further strengthen the Coast Guard activities

- It has been identified that the Department of Coast Guard, established by the Department of Coast Guard Act, No.41 of 2009, finds it difficult to carry out the functions expected of the Department within its existing organizational structure. Accordingly, having taken into consideration the current needs, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence, to draft a new Act repealing the Department of Coast Guard Act, 41, of 2009, to further strengthen the Department of Coast Guard, as a law enforcement Institution of the Coast Guard, was approved by the Cabinet.
