Creating a Special Unit in the Treasury for the Low Income Group and the Middle Income Group under the Home Ownership Programme

- The Government is expected to construct a total of 620,000 houses consisting of 120,000 for the Low Income Group and 500,000 for the Middle Income Group by the year 2019, under the Low Income Group and the Middle Income Group Home Ownership Programme. Treating this as a national priority, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister, in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to establish a Special Unit (Special Purpose) in the General Treasury, for obtaining the necessary approval expeditiously for the programme (SPV) allocating the required lands and provision of the necessary facilities to complete the project within the stipulated time frame, was approved by the Cabinet.
