Improvement of the Production Capacity of the State Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Corporation

- It is essential to expand the manufacturing capacity of the State Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Corporation (SPMC), in order to provide good quality drugs in large quantities at lower prices to all hospitals in the country and also in a short period of time and save a considerable amount of foreign exchange. Accordingly, the Cabinet has already granted approval to implement a Project for the construction of new drug manufacturing plants with the necessary infrastructure facilities and modern equipment and in this regard, a loan facility of Japanese Yen 1,244 Million has also been provided. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, to award the contract, in accordance with the recommendations of the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee (SCAPC), was approved by the Cabinet.
