Construction of the North - Western Canal under the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program
- The North-Western Province Canal Project is implemented under the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program, with the objective of providing for 12,500 Ha of paddy land. Under Phase-I of the Project, it is proposed to develop a length of 5.25 km in the Wemadulla Left Bank main canal up to the Nebadagahawatta Reservoir, and to construct a new sluice at Wemadulla and to construct a canal from the sluice 600 meters in length up to the Left Bank main canal. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to award the relevant contract, in accordance with the recommendation of the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee (SCAPC), was approved by the Cabinet.
