Construction of the Upper Elahera Canal under the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program

- The Upper Elahera Canal is implemented under the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program, with the objective of providing water to the North Central Province. The Upper Elahera Canal is designed to be constructed under Phase-I of the Project. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to award the contract for the construction of the Upper Canal of 6.2 km in length, in accordance with the recommendation of the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee (SCAPC), at an estimated cost of Rs.3,254 Million, was approved by the Cabinet.
