Payment of Compensation for the Shops affected by the out break of fire at the Kilinochchi Public Market

- Due the out break of fire at the Kilinochchi Public Market on 16.09.2016, 122 shops were damaged. As such, the proposals made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister and Hon. D.M. Swaminathan, the Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, for payment of compensation of Rs.74 Million, for the affected 122 traders and to establish a fire brigade service in the Kilinochchi District at a cost of Rs.97 Million and to construct a permanent market complex at an estimated cost of Rs.150 Million, to re-establish the business establishments affected by fire, as recommended by the Assessment Committee Appointed with the objective of providing relief to the traders affected by the fire, was approved by the Cabinet.
