Construction of an International Buddhist Centre to coinside with the International Vesak Commemoration of 2017

- It has been proposed to build an International Buddhist Centre in the land of ‘Rejidelwaththa’ in Kahapola, Piliyandala which belongs to the ‘Samarakoon’ Legacy, to coinside with the International Vesak Commemoration to be held in Sri Lanka, in the year 2017. It is proposed to recreate the 'Sakya Janapadaya' which happened to be the birth place of the Buddha, in order to provide the opportunity for the public to see and to construct a fully pledged Buddhist Library, a Buddhist Meditation Centre, a Centre for the recreating of stories relevant to the Life of Buddha through Digital Technology, a Training Centre to provide discourses in the medium of Sinhala and English, a vegetative restaurant, rest rooms for both laymen and priests etc.. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, the Minister of Buddha Sasana, to implement this project in collaboration with the 'the Light of Asia Foundation' as a non-profit making charity, was approved by the Cabinet.
