Construction of 3,000 Rain Water Harvesting Tanks in the Jaffna District by the Government of India
- There is a grave problem in the entire Jaffna Peninsular with regard to the quality of drinking water and as a remedial measure, a project proposal by the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR) aimed at providing the population with a sustainable and safe drinking water has been submitted to the Indian High Commission. Having considered the proposal, the Indian High Commission has expressed its willingness to assist in constructing 3,000 Rain Water Harvesting Tanks within the financial provision of LKR 300 million in the District of Jaffna. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as the Minister of National Integration and Reconciliation to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Government of India for the implementation of the Project, was approved by the Cabinet.
