Committee to consider Reforms to the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act

- It has been identified that a revision is essential in respect of the provisions regarding the minimum age of marriage and certain other matters covered under the Muslim Law which are not in conformity with the norms specified in certain International Conventions to which Sri Lanka is also a party. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, the Minister of Justice, to appoint a Cabinet Sub‑Committee to study and propose appropriate amendments to the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act, to the Cabinet, was approved by the Cabinet.
