Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2016-10-25
Relief provided to consumers affected by the drought
- The National Water Supply & Drainage Board has encountered difficulties in supplying drinking water to 54 water supply schemes due to the depletion of ground water levels in the water resources as a result of the drought which prevailed for the last two months. The information provided to the Cabinet by Hon. Rauff Hakeem, the Minister of City Planning and Water Supply, to the effect, that due to this reason, 70 water bowsers have been used to supply water to the consumers who do not get sufficient water supply through their pipe lines, that a special team has been deployed for each regional sub‑office to provide a 24 hour water supply service to the areas which are affected by the drought and that the public has been made aware to use water sparingly through the news media, was noted by the Cabinet.
