Amendment to the Sugathadasa National Sports Complex Authority Act, No. 17 of 1999

- The administrative and maintenance activities of the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Sugathadasa Outdoor Stadium, Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex, Bogambara Outdoor Stadium in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya Race Course and the Beliatta Swimming Pool Complex are carried out by the Sugathadasa National Sports Complex Authority. The Authority provides sports facilities at extremely concessionary rates and as such, the revenue so derived is not adequate for the proper maintenance of the relevant stadiums. Therefore, with a view to generating a sufficient income to maintain the relevant stadiums and provide sports facilities, the proposal made by Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekera, Minister of Sports, to amend the Sugathadasa National Sports Complex Authority Act, No.17 of 1999, incorporating amendments to suit the present, in order to provide an opportunity for the relvant stadiums to be used for arts activities, seminars, examinations and suchlike possible income generating activities, on occasions when they are not in use for sports events, was approved by the Cabinet.
