National Plan for Women Headed Households

- When empowering women who form 52% of the total population of Sri Lanka, it is imperative to pay foremost attention to the 24.3% of families out of the total number of families in the country, which are headed by women. With a view to ensuring women's contribution and performance in the development process, a combined approach is being planned to be implemented island wide, for “women headed households” and the proposal made by Hon. (Mrs.) Chandrani Bandara, the Minister of Women and Child Affairs, to implement the cluster of proposals for a national initiative made thereunder in respect of a number of fields such as, Health and Psycho-Social Support, Livelihood Development, Support Services System, Protection, Social Security and National Level Policy Foundation and Raising Community Awareness, was approved by the Cabinet.
