Commencing a Value Added Processing Zone in Elpitiya

- It has been planned to commence a Value Added Processing Zone, centering Elpitiya area in the Galle District, to coincide with the state policy of establishing 23 Agricultural Mega Zones throughout the country. Through this initiative, the products of the area will receive a high export income and employment opportunities will also be created for the youth of the area. Accordingly, the joint proposal made by Hon. Navin Dissanayake, the Minister of Plantation Industries; Hon. Gayantha Karunathilake, the Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media; and Hon. Daya Gamage, the Minister of Primary Industries, to allocate 200 acres from the Igalakanda and Ketapolawatta areas, situated in close proximity to the Southern Expressway, belonging to the Elpitiya Plantation Company, for the establishment of the proposed Elpitiya Agri Processing Zone, was approved by the Cabinet.
