Conducting a Feasibility Study for Five Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines, proposed to be constructed in the Western Region
- The Cabinet has already granted approval for the introduction of 07 Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines, as a successful long term solution to cope with the future transport demand that will be created as a result of development activities that take place in the Western Region and other related areas. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has expressed its consent to provide support for the construction of two of these rail lines. Accordingly, with a view to inviting the private sector to invest in the construction of the balance 05 LRT lines, the proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, to conduct a formal feasibility study for the said purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
