Establishment of an Industrial and Techno Development Super Zone at Raigama, Kalutara

- The establishment of industrial estates with the objective of extending the industrial development limited to the urban areas, to the rural level; creating industries that produce value added goods from rural resources and increasing the availability of higher salaried employment opportunities in rural areas, is the concept of the Government. Under this, it has been planned to establish 11 Industrial and Techno Development Zones throughout the country, with infrastructure facilities and support services on par with the infrastructure facilities and support services available in the development zones established in the the East Asian countries and Rs.500 million has been set apart from the Budgetary provisions of 2016 for the establishment of 04 Super Zones, out of these, in Hambantota, Raigama, Mahaoya and Trincomalee. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Rishad Bathiudeen, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, to establish a Techno Development Super Zone dedicated for consumer and innovative technological products, in Raigama area of the Kalutara District, was approved by the Cabinet.
