Project on the Preparation of Sri Lanka’s Third National Communication (TNC) Report on Climate Change
- The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was ratified by Sri Lanka in the year 1993. In terms of Article 12 of the said Convention, each Party is required to prepare and submit a National Communication Report containing the information on climate change and accordingly, Sri Lanka has submitted the relevant First and Second Communication Reports to the UNFCCC Secretariat, in the years 2000 and 2012, respectively. In order to successfully strengthen Sri Lanka's institutional and technical capacities to respond effectively to climate change challenges and meet its obligations under the UNFCCC, as a Member State, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to implement the Project on the Preparation of the Third National Communication Report on Climate Change, utilizing the grant assistance to be provided under the Global Environment Facility (GEF) by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and to submit the Report so prepared to the UNFCCC Secretariat, was approved by the Cabinet.
