Policy and Legal Framework relating to the Proposed Counter Terrorism Act of Sri Lanka

- A Committee headed by the Hon. Minister of Law & Order and Southern Development, has been appointed to draft the Policy and Legal Framework to introduce a new Counter Terrorism Law, instead of the Prevention of Terrorism Act presently in force, that would adequately provide for the suppression of terrorism and related activities and ensure compliance with the obligations to be fulfilled by Sri Lanka in relation to Human Rights. Accordingly, the Cabinet decided to refer the Policy and Legal Framework drafted by the said Committee and submitted to the Cabinet by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister, to the Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight Committee on National Security, in order to enable further discussion on the matter.
