Beach Nourishment Project at Marawila through off-shore Sand Mining - Phase II

- Approval has already been granted by the Cabinet of Ministers for the implementation of a Beach Nourishment Project through off-shore sand mining, to control coastal erosion and stabilize the coastal belt at Marawila area, where the most severe coastal erosion situation in Sri Lanka is presently reported. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to award the contract relevant to the said project, as recommended by the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee (SCAPC), was approved by the Cabinet.
