Construction of a New Building for the National Design Centre
- The building which currently accommodates the National Design Centre established for the betterment of local handicraft artists is in a very dilapidated condition and cannot withstand renovation or alteration to suit the present day requirements. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Rishad Bathiudeen, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, to demolish the said building and construct a new building with the required facilities including a workshop, design unit, library, craft demonstration area and administration block etc., for each handicraft sector, at an estimated cost of Rs.80 million, was approved by the Cabinet.
