Introduction of Contributory Pension Scheme for Artists

- Through the Budget proposals for 2016, funds have been allocated for the creation of a Contributory Pension Scheme for Artists, engaged in various fields of Arts, with a view to ensure their professional recognition and social security. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. S.B. Nawinne, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development and Cultural Affairs, to implement a Contributory Pension Scheme for the Artists selected by the Department of Cultural Affairs, adopting a method of awarding marks based on age, through the Social Security Board, effective from this year onwards, was approved by the Cabinet.
