National Occupational Safety Week 2016
- The arrangements have been made to conduct the 'National Occupational Safety Week' organized annually by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), from 7th to 14th of October 2016, with the main objective of making an outstanding contribution towards boosting the national production through creating a healthy labour force, by minimizing all forms of work related hazards. It is scheduled to hold an International Conference and a National Seminar on Occupational Safety and Health concurrent with this year's 'National Occupational Safety and Health Week'; and the 'National Occupational Safety and Health - Awards of Excellence Ceremony' will be held, with a view to appreciating the selected business entities which are committed to creating a safe working environment for the employees. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. W.D.J. Seneviratne, the Minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations, to implement this year's National Occupational Safety Week' in collaboration with the relevant public and private institutions, treating it as a National Programme, was approved by the Cabinet.
