Creating an Accelerated Economic Transformation in Sri Lanka - Setting up a Central Programme Management Unit

- Setting up of a unit dedicated to track, monitor and take timely corrective actions in respect of development activities, is considered most critical to achieve the objectives of enabling an accelerated economic development across the country and transforming the country's economy into a sustainable social market economy. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to obtain the assistance of McKinsey & Company of USA, which is a foreign consultancy firm with proven experience and capability of setting up of similar CPM Units in rapidly transforming economies such as Malaysia, for setting up of a CPMU in Sri Lanka to carry out the desired objectives, was approved by the Cabinet.
