Enforcement and Regulation of the activities related to the International Conventions pertaining to Wildlife Conservation, in Sri Lanka
- By now, Sri Lanka has signed several International conventions relating to Wildlife Conservation, however, specific legal provisions have not been provided for the formal implementation of the activities related to the said Conventions. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Gamini Jayawickrema Perera, the Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife, to amend the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance, in order to enable the Minister to make necessary regulations for the implementation of International Conventions related to wildlife conservation signed by Sri Lanka, locally, including the activities relating to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), was approved by the Cabinet.
