Implementation of Three Water Supply Schemes for the provision of drinking water to the people of the areas affected due to the water leakage that occurred in the main tunnel of Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project

- The Cabinet has already granted approval for the implementation of three (03) water supply schemes for the provisions of purified drinking water to the people living in the areas of Weheragalatenna, Makul-ella and Kurundugolla which were affected due to the water leakage that occurred in the main tunnel of Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project. Accordingly, the construction activities of the said projects have been commenced and it has been revealed that the number of beneficiary families including the families living close to the water resources have increased up to 2,400 from 1417. Therefore, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to revise the cost involved for the above mentioned 03 water supply schemes as Rs.317.24 million, and implement the said projects expeditiously, was approved by the Cabinet.
