Establishment of the National Media Centre

- On implementing the state mechanism, the timely dissemination of complete, reliable and accurate official information to the general public is a main responsibility of the Government, and it has been further ensured through the provisions of the recently enacted Right to Information Act. As a one more step in this direction, with a view to ensuring the implementation of the principles of Good Governance in a more enhanced manner, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickramasinghe, the Prime Minister, for the establishment of a 'National Media Centre', which would function as the Official Media Spokesman of the Government in disseminating official government information to both electronic and print media and coordinating information, while obtaining the views of the general public for policy formulation, was approved by the Cabinet.
