Construction of Roads in the Downstream Development Areas under the Moragahakanda - Kaluganga Development Project

- In order to resettle the families affected by the Moragahakanda - Kaluganga Development Project as well as to reap the full benefits of the project, it is of utmost importance to develop the irrigation and infrastructure facilities in the downstream area of the said reservoirs. Therefore, the proposal made by H.E. the President, Hon. Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to award the contracts for the construction of Moragahakanda-Wellawela Road (6.37 km), Medirigiriya-Kantale Road through Agbopura (8.5 km) and the construction of internal roads within the new Laggala Town (road surfacing), which are essential road development works, as recommended by the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee (SCAPC), was approved by the Cabinet.
