Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2016-08-23

International Religious Conference - To be held in Colombo in November 2016

- Considering the timely need to create peaceful co-existence, religious tolerance, multi-cultural reflection as well as reconciliation among the races, through religious harmony and understanding, the Cabinet has already granted approval to hold two International Religious Conferences in Sri Lanka. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. M.H.A. Haleem, the Minister of Posts, Postal Services and Muslim Religious Affairs, to provide the funds required for the organizing activities of the International Religious Conference to be held in Colombo in November 2016, under the theme 'Role of Religion in Pluralistic and Democratic Societies in South and South East Asia: Perspectives of Islam' with the participation of high level local and foreign dignitaries including Heads of State of 16 Countries, was approved in principle by the Cabinet.
